Будьмо друзями довкіллю
There is no doubt that current condition of our planet definitely belongs under "global ecological crisis" category. We made tremendous environmental mess over the years, and as always things need to become critical before we start fixing them. Mother Earth is down on her knees not able to defend herself from so many different ecological problems. By helping our planet we are helping ourselves because Earth is still our only home.
A number of gases contribute significantly to the stock of greenhouse gases. CO2 has the greatest impact. The burning of fuels by automobiles and industries are main sources of greenhouse gases. Less damaging sources include deforestation, animal husbandry, wet rice cultivation, decomposition of waste, and coal mining. Together all developing countries, with roughly three-quarters of the world’s population, produce less than one-third of industrial CO2. Urbanization occurs naturally from individual and corporate efforts to reduce time and expense in commuting and transportation while improving opportunities for jobs, education, housing, and transportation. Living in cities permits individuals and families to take advantage of the opportunities of proximity, diversity, and marketplace competition. Average temperatures could increase by as much as 12 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century if emissions continue to rise, a figure that would easily make the world virtually uninhabitable for humans. A global temperature rise of just 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit would cause a catastrophic domino effect, bringing weather extremes that would result in food and water shortages and destructive floods. Whether we like to admit it or not, our very own rapidly multiplying presence on this planet is the biggest environmental problem there is, and it‘s getting bigger by the minute. We voraciously consume resources, pollute the air and water, tear down natural habitats, introduce species into areas where they don‘t belong and destroy ecosystems to the point of causing millions of species to become endangered and, all too often, go extinct. Smog and haze can reduce the amount of sunlight received by plants to carry out photosynthesis and leads to the production of tropospheric ozone which damages plants. Soil can become infertile and unsuitable for plants. This will affect other organisms in the food web. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain which lowers the pH value of soil.
Висновки Current modern technologies could be wisely used to prevent ecological disasters, endangering of animal species, and to entire development of ecosystem, and all we have to do is to turn technologies in these directions. Humanity must become now more than ever before dedicated to preservation of their natural habitats. And we have only one natural habitat and this is our planet Earth. Earth has lately become surrounded with so many different ecological problems, of which some (like global warming) threaten with future catastrophic consequences. Ecological problems also require appropriate legislative support that should ban modern technologies that have negative impact on environment, and only allow those technologies that do not have, or have only minimum of negative impact on the environment. Passive observation is not sufficient, especially now when we have become witnesses of so many ecological disasters.
It is really time for one global action, and who knows maybe this is our only chance to save Earth.
